New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved key central deputation postings of two Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, marking significant developments in India’s internal security and border management landscape.
Rudolf Alvares (IPS:2009:MP), currently serving in the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), has been appointed as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Meanwhile, Karthik Malladi (IPS:2016:MN), SP of Ukhrul district in Manipur, has been inducted as Superintendent of Police (SP) in the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
SP Ukhrul to Join Central Counter-Terrorism Agency
Karthik Malladi, a 2016-batch IPS officer from the Manipur cadre, is currently serving as the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Ukhrul district. The MHA has requested the Manipur government to relieve him immediately so that he can assume his new responsibilities at the Centre without delay.
The NIA, India’s premier counter-terrorism agency, routinely inducts experienced officers from state cadres on deputation to strengthen its investigative and operational capabilities.
Rudolf Alvares Appointed DIG in Sashastra Seema Bal
In a separate order issued on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, the Ministry also approved the appointment of Rudolf Alvares, an IPS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre, as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). Alvares is currently serving as Deputy Director in the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC).
According to the MHA order, Alvares will serve as DIG in the SSB from the date of assuming charge up to December 13, 2027, completing a combined five-year tenure, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The SSB, which guards India’s borders with Nepal and Bhutan, plays a vital role in border security and anti-infiltration operations.
Strategic Strengthening of India’s Internal Security Forces
These appointments are part of the Centre’s ongoing efforts to strengthen national security agencies by positioning experienced IPS officers in key operational roles. While the NIA handles critical counter-terrorism investigations, the SSB plays a frontline role in border surveillance, security, and anti-infiltration operations.
