Hyderabad: In a significant move, the central government has approved an increase in the Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre strength in Telangana from 139 to 151. This decision follows a series of formal requests made by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and intervention by Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy in Parliament.
Soon after the Congress party formed the government in the state, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy wrote to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) three times, urging a review of the IPS cadre strength. The request was part of the routine five-year review by the central government to evaluate and adjust the IPS cadre across states based on administrative needs.
The Home Ministry, responding to these repeated calls and parliamentary advocacy, approved the enhancement of Telangana’s IPS cadre, breaking down the 151 posts as follows:
- Service Duty Posts: 83
- Central Deputation Reserve Posts: 33
- State Deputation Reserve Posts: 20
- Training Reserve Posts: 2
- Leave Reserve and Junior Reserve Posts: 13
- Posts to be Filled by Promotion: 46
- Posts to be Filled by Direct Recruitment: 105
Union Home Minister Amit Shah had earlier assured Parliament that the matter would be reviewed with immediate effect, acknowledging the growing administrative needs of the newly formed government in Telangana.
The increase is expected to bolster the law enforcement infrastructure in the state and improve the implementation of public safety and internal security measures.
