Mainpat, Surguja: Emphasizing the deep-rooted influence of Buddhist heritage in Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Deo Sai unveiled a grand statue of Lord Buddha at Mainpat in Surguja district today. The event, held on the grounds of a local hotel, marked a significant cultural and spiritual milestone for the region, known for its Tibetan heritage and scenic beauty.
In his address, the Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the Tibetan community for inviting him and highlighted the enduring relevance of Lord Buddha’s teachings. “The roots of Buddhist tradition are very deep in Chhattisgarh. We are committed to moving forward on the path of love, peace, and compassion shown by Lord Buddha,” he stated.
A Tribute to Inclusive Culture and Spiritual Unity
The Chief Minister noted that regions like Sirpur in the state have historically been centers of convergence for Buddhist, Jain, and Sanatan dharma traditions, making Chhattisgarh a living example of India’s inclusive spiritual culture.
CM Sai also reflected on the global legacy of the Dalai Lama, calling him a living embodiment of Lord Buddha’s message. “His 90th birthday is not just a celebration but a reminder of the strength of compassion in today’s world. His message brings hope and peace across borders,” he added, noting that world leaders, including PM Narendra Modi, had extended wishes.

₹30 Lakh Development Package for Mainpat
Responding to the demands of the local Tibetan Cooperative Society, Chief Minister Sai announced:
- ₹10 lakh for the construction of a CC (cement concrete) road from Saila Resort to the Buddhist temple
- ₹20 lakh for the construction of a protective shed at the ancient Buddhist temple site
He also reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting Mainpat as a tourism hub, pointing to its natural beauty and unique cultural landscape. “Mainpat has great tourism potential, and we are prioritizing tourism in our new industrial policy. Incentives will be provided for setting up homestays in such scenic locations,” said the Chief Minister.
Warm Welcome and Sapling Plantation
The Chief Minister was given a traditional Tibetan welcome, with locals lining the route holding the Indian tricolor, adding a patriotic and festive spirit to the occasion. CM Sai also planted a sapling, symbolizing peace and growth.
The event was attended by Surguja MP Mr. Chintamani Maharaj, Sitapur MLA Mr. Ramkumar Toppo, District Collector Mr. Vilas Bhoskar, Settlement Officer Ms. Swang Yangso, President of Tibetan Cooperative Society Mr. Tamding Tsering, and prominent lamas including Lama Dubje and Lama Jinpa.
