In a deeply emotional and symbolic gesture, CM Vishnu Deo Sai and Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Arun Sao washed the feet of Swachhata Didis during a public event held at Bahtarai Stadium in Bilaspur. The occasion was part of a special felicitation ceremony for sanitation workers from urban bodies who delivered outstanding performances in the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25.

Acknowledging Unsung Heroes of Cleanliness Campaign
The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister honoured the Swachhata Didis in a unique and respectful way, shining a spotlight on those whose efforts often go unrecognised. The honoured sanitation workers expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the unprecedented gesture.
Swachhata Didi Ms. Punita Bai from Vishrampur and Ms. Ranu Dewangan from Kumhari described the experience as a moment of immense pride and validation. “Cleanliness work is often looked down upon, but today the Chief Minister’s act has given us the highest form of honour,” said Ms. Dewangan.
“A Campaign for Social Change,” Says CM Sai
After the ceremony, Chief Minister Mr. Sai addressed the gathering and praised the Swachhata Didis and Swachhata Commandos for their dedication and service.
“These women are not only working for cleanliness but are also leading a campaign for social change,” he said. “Their tireless efforts are helping create a cleaner and healthier environment for all. This initiative will inspire society to show greater respect for sanitation work.”
He added that recognising their contributions would raise awareness and dignity for the profession and encourage more people to support the mission of cleanliness.
Recognition After Years of Service
Ms. Pooja Rathore from Bilha and Mr. Vasu Raj from Dantewada, who were also honoured, shared their experiences, stating that although they have been engaged in this work for nearly eight years, this was the first time they had received such heartfelt recognition.
“Our hard work has finally been acknowledged in front of thousands. This is the proudest moment of our lives,” said Ms. Rathore.

The event not only highlighted the success of the state in the Swachh Survekshan rankings but also set a powerful example of leadership grounded in respect and humility.
