Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Sunday announced a 3% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees, raising it from 55% to 58%. The move is expected to directly benefit around 3.9 lakh officers and employees, boosting their monthly income amid rising inflation.
The announcement was made at the 8th State Conference of the Chhattisgarh State Employees’ Union in Rohini Puram, Raipur, where a large gathering of officials and staff from across the state was present. The decision aligns the state DA with the central government rate, fulfilling a long-standing demand from employee organizations.
Direct Impact on Salaries
The increase in DA will have an immediate effect on employees’ monthly paychecks, enhancing their purchasing power and easing the burden of rising household expenses. Chief Minister Sai emphasized that this step reflects the government’s commitment to the welfare of its workforce.
“This decision shows that the state government takes employees’ expectations seriously and prioritizes their needs,” he said, adding that the move strengthens trust between the administration and its staff.
Other Employee-Focused Initiatives
Over the past two years, the Chhattisgarh government has implemented several measures to improve working conditions and career progression:
- Revised transfer and promotion policies to ensure transparency and efficiency.
- Timely payment of pension, gratuity, and other retirement benefits for retired employees.
- Establishment of the Governance & Convergence Department to streamline administration and enhance citizen-centric governance.
- Emphasis on training and capacity-building programs for employees.
Chief Minister Sai highlighted that these reforms, along with the DA hike, are part of a broader agenda to ensure financial security, professional growth, and improved work-life conditions for all government staff.
Widespread Reception
The announcement received a thunderous applause from attendees, reflecting widespread appreciation among employees. Employee union leaders called the DA hike a timely and much-needed relief, particularly in the context of rising inflation and daily expenses.
With this move, Chhattisgarh sets a precedent for employee-friendly governance, ensuring that government staff not only receive fair compensation but also enjoy a supportive and transparent work environment.
