Raipur: Chhattisgarh has set a new national standard in technology-driven education governance through its innovative Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK). The IIT Bhilai Innovation and Technology Foundation (IBITF) has recognised VSK as a model of excellence, citing it as a scalable and impactful framework for digital governance in the education sector.
AI and Data Analytics Transform Education Administration
Implemented by the School Education Department under the Department of Good Governance and Convergence, the VSK has become a centralised, real-time monitoring platform that enables data-driven decision-making in one of India’s largest public education systems.
Chhattisgarh administers over 48,500 government schools, serving 3.9 million students and supported by 180,000 teaching and non-teaching personnel. Historically, challenges such as fragmented data, delayed decision-making, and inefficient monitoring affected administrative outcomes. VSK addresses these issues by providing accurate, actionable insights in real time.
Integration of Critical Databases and Real-Time Monitoring
VSK integrates a wide range of essential databases, including –
- UDISE, HRMIS, PM POSHAN, PGI, APAAR ID, Aadhaar, GIS mapping
This unified ecosystem enables continuous monitoring of –
- School infrastructure
- Teacher deployment
- Student attendance
- Learning outcomes
- Implementation of welfare schemes
The system also employs AI-based analytics and predictive models to identify potential dropouts and learning gaps early, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and promoting equitable, inclusive, and quality education.
Measurable Outcomes and Impact
Since its implementation, VSK has delivered significant results –
- APAAR IDs generated for ~87% of students
- Aadhaar verification completed for ~89% of students
- Barcode tracking of 21.3 million textbooks, resulting in ₹50 crore savings through efficiency and reduced leakages
The platform is further reinforced by a dedicated Command and Control Centre and an active Call Centre, enabling –
- Grievance redressal
- Data verification
- Field-level feedback
- Sustained stakeholder engagement
These mechanisms have enhanced trust, responsiveness, and participation between the administration and citizens.
Recognition as a National Standard
IBITF highlighted that VSK is not just a technological platform, but a catalyst for institutionalising a data-driven governance culture. By integrating AI, predictive analytics, and real-time monitoring, Chhattisgarh’s education administration has become more proactive, transparent, and results-oriented.
As a Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) under India’s NM-ICPS Mission, IBITF has formally recognised VSK as a national model for data-led education reform, positioning Chhattisgarh among India’s leading states in citizen-centric digital infrastructure and governance.
