Raipur: The cultural troupe ‘Lok Shringar Bharti’ from Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, captivated audiences with a mesmerizing performance of the traditional Gedi dance at the historic Red Fort, New Delhi. Invited by UNESCO and the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, the performance took place during an international cultural event held from 7 to 13 December 2025, which hosted delegates from 180 countries.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai congratulated the Gedi dance troupe for bringing international recognition to Chhattisgarh’s rich cultural heritage.
Ministerial Praise and Enthusiastic Reception
Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, lauded the performance and famously declared, “Chhattisgarhia Sabse Badhiya” (Chhattisgarh is the best), motivating the artists. The event also celebrated India’s Diwali festival being recognized as a global cultural heritage by UNESCO, with the Gedi dance performance receiving special appreciation.

Energetic and Thrilling Performance Captivates Audience
Under the expert guidance of lead singer and dance director Anil Garhewal, the Gedi dance troupe delivered a high-energy and adventurous performance that enthralled international delegates. The performance included a combination of music and daring human formations, featuring traditional instruments like the Mandal, harmonium, and flute. Artists including Prabhat Banjare, Suraj Khande, Shubham Bhargav, Lakshmi Narayan Mandale, Phoolchand Ogre, and Manoj Mandale amazed the audience with their skillful stunts.
International Recognition and Cultural Diplomacy
UNESCO Director-General Dr. Khalid N. Anani, along with delegates from 180 countries, posed for commemorative photographs with the Gedi dance troupe. The performance, accompanied by songs like “Kaat Le Hariyar Banse” and traditional instruments, sparked international interest in Chhattisgarh’s culture and showcased the state’s artistic heritage on a global platform.

Chhattisgarh’s Rich Culture Highlighted
The troupe’s use of traditional attire, including cowrie and porcelain necklaces, Patson garments, Sikbandh, and peacock feathers, along with expressive dance forms, made the performance visually stunning. The show not only highlighted Chhattisgarh’s artistic traditions but also provided the state with international cultural recognition and appreciation from ministers, diplomats, and global delegates alike.
