The Chhattisgarh government has decided to end the ongoing departmental inquiry against IPS officer Rajnesh Singh, with the inquiry being conditionally terminated. The decision follows Singh’s application and a closure report submitted by the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) in court.
The inquiry involved two phone tapping cases registered against Rajnesh Singh during the Congress-led government, dating back to 2019. Singh, who currently serves as the SP of Bilaspur, was accused of unauthorized phone tapping during the investigation of the Naan scam under the Raman Singh government. Mukesh Gupta, a retired officer and former DG of EOW-ACB, was also implicated in the same case.
The allegations also included tampering with documents. Both officers were suspended, and FIRs were filed against them under non-bailable sections. However, the EOW-ACB, in its closure report, stated that no crime had been committed and requested the court to cancel the FIR.
In a related development, IPS officer Mukesh Gupta, who had been suspended for about three years, successfully challenged his suspension in the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), leading to his reinstatement and eventual retirement in September 2022. IPS Rajnesh Singh also contested his suspension, with CAT ruling in his favor, ordering his reinstatement.
