Raipur: A major administrative reshuffle has taken place in the Chhattisgarh Police Department. 2012 batch IPS officer Ashutosh Singh, who was serving as the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Mahasamund district, has been sent on central deputation and appointed as Superintendent of Police in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Official orders regarding this transfer were issued by the Home Department of the Chhattisgarh Government on Tuesday.
Ashutosh Singh Appointed SP in CBI
According to the official order, Mr Singh has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect after receiving approval from the central government. He will now serve as SP in the CBI. His selection for central deputation is being viewed as recognition of his professional competence and administrative capabilities.
Ashutosh Singh is known in the state police service as a disciplined, strict, and result-oriented officer, with a strong track record in maintaining law and order.

Notable Tenure in Mahasamund District
During his tenure as SP of Mahasamund, Ashutosh Singh focused on strengthening law and order, curbing criminal activities, and taking firm action against illegal operations. He implemented effective strategies to enhance security in Naxal-affected border areas, which produced positive and visible results.
His efforts also helped improve police-public relations, leading to better coordination with citizens and a noticeable improvement in the overall law and order situation in the district.
IPS Prabhat Kumar Appointed New SP of Mahasamund
Following IPS Singh’s transfer, the state government has appointed 2019 batch IPS officer Kumar as the new Superintendent of Police of Mahasamund district. Prabhat Kumar has earlier served in several important postings across the state and is regarded as an officer with strong administrative experience and a good understanding of regional challenges.
He is expected to assume charge shortly and continue efforts to maintain peace and strengthen policing in the district.
Transfer Effective Immediately
The Home Department’s order clearly states that the administrative changes will come into effect immediately. While Mr Singh has been relieved for his new role in the CBI, Mr Kumar will soon take over as SP of Mahasamund.
Officials have described the reshuffle as part of the routine administrative process, noting that central deputation is considered a matter of prestige for state cadre officers. It is expected that the new appointment will provide fresh momentum to policing and administration in Mahasamund.
