Bhopal: In light of the ongoing monsoon season and the possibility of heavy rainfall and flooding, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav reviewed the state’s disaster preparedness at a high-level meeting held at the Ministry. He emphasized the need to strengthen the state’s information and response systems to prevent loss of life and property, and directed officials to ensure proactive measures in all flood-prone areas.
State Government Committed to Public Safety
CM Dr. Yadav reiterated that the state government is sensitive and fully committed to the safety of the general public. He directed departments to:
- Monitor the water levels of flood-prone rivers continuously
- Identify and assess flood-sensitive zones
- Establish relief camps with food and shelter facilities if needed
- Involve social and religious organizations in relief and rescue operations
Widely publicize disaster-related information and engage citizens in mock drills and training
“We must act in advance, ensure readiness of relief materials and personnel, and build a robust communication network to address emergencies quickly and effectively,” said the Chief Minister.
Preparations During Festivals Also Prioritized
CM Yadav also instructed officials to take additional precautions during upcoming festivals, which coincide with the rainy season. Special attention should be given to crowd safety, event management, and public advisories in vulnerable areas.
Heavy Rainfall Recorded in Several Districts
The meeting was informed that over 61% of seasonal rainfall has already occurred in Madhya Pradesh. Districts such as Tikamgarh, Mandla, Chhatarpur, Niwari, and Sidhi have received maximum rainfall so far.
Emergency Teams and Equipment Deployed
To boost preparedness, the following measures were reported:
- 2 NDRF teams deployed in Bhopal
- 1 team each in Jabalpur, Gwalior, and Dhar
- SDERF teams active across various districts
District-wise Army nodal officers designated for quick response
Essential disaster equipment including motor boats, life jackets, flood lights, and first aid kits have been distributed to districts
Information on waterlogging and dam conditions across the state was also presented during the review.
