“This Office Is a Temple of Democracy” — CM Yogi
During the ceremony, CM Yogi emphasized that the new building will serve not just as an administrative center but as a symbol of public trust and democratic strength. “Uttar Pradesh is the heart of India’s democracy. With over 12 crore voters, it plays a vital role in making India the world’s largest democracy,” he said.
UP’s Vast Electoral Network
CM Yogi detailed the extensive electoral structure in the state:
- 57,600 Gram Panchayats
- 826 Block Panchayats
- 75 District Panchayats
- 17 Municipal Corporations
- 199 Municipal Councils
- 544 Town Panchayats
- 14,000+ Local Posts under SEC Jurisdiction
This infrastructure requires a strong and efficient election commission—something the new building is designed to facilitate.
“Public Voice is Democracy’s Power”
In a powerful message on governance, CM Yogi stressed that elected leaders must listen to and prioritize the voice of the people, not just seek votes. He added that democratic strength lies in accountability and responsiveness—failing which, people respond at the ballot box.
Why This New Building Matters
Previously operating from rented premises, the State Election Commission faced logistical issues. The new building will provide permanent infrastructure, modern facilities, and act as a model office for other states.
Once completed, Uttar Pradesh will be among a select few states with an independent, high-tech headquarters for their Election Commission.
