Coal India Limited (CIL) has achieved a significant milestone by securing the ‘Green World Environment Award 2024’ in the CSR category for the fuel, power, and energy sector. Along with this esteemed recognition, CIL has been named a ‘Green World Ambassador’ for its exceptional commitment to environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR).
The award highlights CIL’s remarkable Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojna, a CSR initiative providing curative treatment for over 600 Thalassemia patients through bone marrow transplant (BMT) procedures. Launched in 2017, CIL became the first public sector undertaking to undertake such an initiative, offering financial assistance of up to ₹10 lakh per patient. The program is implemented in collaboration with 17 leading hospitals across India.
Vinay Ranjan, Director (Personnel/IR) at Coal India, accepted the award during a grand ceremony held at The Orangery in Kensington Palace, London. Organized by The Green Organization, a global environmental group established in 1994, the awards celebrate outstanding achievements in environmental and CSR efforts worldwide.
Expressing gratitude, Ranjan emphasized that the recognition motivates continued efforts to protect the environment and secure a sustainable future for upcoming generations. This award further bolsters CIL’s reputation as a key contributor to India’s energy sector while showcasing its leadership in advancing sustainable and socially impactful initiatives.
