On Thursday, the Ministry of Coal unveiled the new Mine Opening Permission module on the Single Window Clearance System (SWCS) portal, a move aimed at accelerating and streamlining approvals for opening coal mines. The module, launched by Coal Secretary Vikram Dev Dutt, aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a digitally enabled and developed India (Viksit Bharat).
The Mine Opening Permission module is a key advancement in the coal sector’s digital transformation. By leveraging digital tools, it aims to simplify processes, enhance transparency, and reduce approval times, fostering a more investment-friendly environment and supporting India’s energy security. According to the Ministry, this initiative will further the government’s commitment to ease of doing business and sustainable development.
Launched in January 2021, the Single Window Clearance System (SWCS) serves as a unified digital platform for obtaining necessary clearances for coal mines. The new module allows for online applications and real-time tracking, minimizing manual paperwork and expediting approvals for new coal mines or coal seam openings.
“The Mine Opening Permission module embodies the Ministry’s dedication to innovation in the coal sector. Through technology and automation, this initiative will enable quicker decision-making, support faster mine openings, and contribute to India’s energy security and self-reliance,” the Ministry’s statement added.
