New Delhi: HAL dual-rail ASRAAM launcher has successfully completed qualification trials for the Tejas Mk1A fighter jet, marking another major achievement for India’s defence industry. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) confirmed that the aircraft passed both single and twin ASRAAM firing trials after important wing modifications. The new launcher allows Tejas Mk1A to carry two ASRAAM missiles on one wing station, giving the Indian Air Force more firepower and greater mission flexibility.
HAL Successfully Qualifies Dual-Rail ASRAAM Launcher
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has officially qualified the new dual-rail launcher for the Advanced Short Range Air-to-Air Missile (ASRAAM) on the Tejas Mk1A. The achievement was confirmed by Sumana Prakash, General Manager at HAL’s Aircraft Research and Design Centre (ARDC), during an interview with Zone Victor Aerospace & Defence.

According to HAL, the aircraft successfully completed all required single and twin missile firing trials using the newly developed launcher.

What Is the HAL Dual-Rail ASRAAM Launcher
The Dual-Rail ASRAAM Launcher is a newly designed weapon pylon developed for the Tejas Mk1A. Earlier, one wing station could carry only one ASRAAM missile. Now, the same station can carry two ASRAAM missiles at the same time. This means the fighter jet can carry more short-range air-to-air missiles without losing space for other weapons. Simply put, Tejas Mk1A becomes more powerful without adding extra weapon stations.
Why Is This Upgrade Important
The new launcher gives the Indian Air Force more flexibility during combat missions. Since one station now carries two ASRAAM missiles, the other hardpoints can carry:
- Astra Mk1 Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missiles
- Smart bombs

- External fuel tanks
This allows the aircraft to perform different mission types without compromising air-to-air combat capability.
