What Are Germanium Lenses?

Germanium lenses are special optical components used in infrared and thermal imaging devices. These lenses help systems detect heat signatures even in darkness, fog, smoke, or difficult weather conditions.

What are the Uses of Germanium Lenses

  • Military surveillance
  • Border security
  • Night vision systems
  • Thermal weapon sights
  • Drone imaging systems
  • Infrared detection equipment

Germanium is widely used because it allows infrared radiation to pass efficiently, making it ideal for defence-grade optics.

Details of the RRP Defence BEL order

According to company disclosures, the order includes the supply of optical lens components such as:

  • GE SF Lens 1
  • GE SF Lens 2

The contract was awarded by BEL’s Machilipatnam unit. Initial sample deliveries will happen first, followed by bulk monthly deliveries after approval.
