Delhi: The Delhi government has given the green light for the construction of a six-lane, double-decker flyover along the Mehrauli–Badarpur (MB) Road, aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving connectivity for millions of daily commuters. The project, cleared by the Expenditure Finance Committee, is estimated at ₹1,471.14 crore and is slated for completion by December 2027.
Announcing the project on January 20, 2026, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the nearly five-kilometer integrated elevated corridor will be executed in two phases to optimize urban space and traffic flow.
Project Phases and Design Features
The first phase will cover a 2.42 km stretch from Saket G-Block to Sangam Vihar, while the second phase will extend 2.48 km from Maa Anandmayee Marg to Pul Prahladpur.
Designed as a double-decker corridor, the upper deck will carry the metro line, while the lower deck will feature a six-lane elevated road. According to the Chief Minister, this integrated configuration is intended to maximize limited urban space while significantly increasing traffic capacity on the busy MB Road.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will be responsible for the construction of the corridor, ensuring adherence to modern engineering standards and urban planning norms.
Additional Infrastructure for Traffic Decongestion
To further streamline traffic, the project includes two vehicular underpasses: one at Saket G-Block and another along the BRT corridor. These underpasses are expected to alleviate congestion in nearby neighborhoods such as Saket, Ambedkar Nagar, Khanpur, and Sangam Vihar, particularly during peak hours.
Since part of the alignment passes through the Tughlaqabad Fort zone, the proposal has been submitted to the Union Ministry of Culture for statutory clearances.
Expected Benefits and Long-Term Impact
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that the project will significantly ease congestion on MB Road, improve vehicle speeds, and reduce travel times for millions of commuters daily. The corridor is also expected to enhance last-mile connectivity, boost urban mobility, and support sustainable infrastructure development in the region.
Officials stated that the flyover will be a landmark infrastructure project for Delhi, integrating metro and road transport to address traffic challenges in one of the city’s busiest urban corridors.
