From Slums to Permanent Homes: Improving Quality of Life
The government stated that the initiative aims to provide safe, dignified, and permanent housing for slum dwellers. Access to permanent homes will not only improve living standards but also ensure better civic amenities for residents.
Amenities Planned in the Renovated Flat Colonies
According to the DDA, the renovated colonies will include essential facilities such as:
- Dispensaries or hospitals
- Local shopping centers and service markets
- Milk booths
- Auto-taxi stands
These amenities are designed to ensure residents can meet daily needs without traveling long distances.
Existing Nearby Facilities
Most colonies already have bus stops, community centers, post offices, schools, and anganwadi centers within 1–1.5 km. Additionally, metro stations, police stations, and health and education facilities are within a 3 km radius, providing easy access to the city’s key services.
Improved Sewage and Urban Environment
Under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), sewage systems in these colonies have been upgraded to ensure a clean and organized urban environment for families moving into the newly renovated flats.
