New Delhi: The Delhi government is set to introduce 500 new electric buses on city roads this Sunday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced while laying the foundation stone for development projects worth Rs 400 crore in Matiala constituency, West Delhi. The move is part of Delhi’s ambitious plan to become a leading city in sustainable urban transport.
CM Gupta highlighted that Delhi already has the highest number of electric buses in the country, and with the addition of 500 more vehicles, the total fleet will rise to 4,000. The government aims to expand the e-bus network to 11,000 over the next two years, ensuring that electric buses are available in every corner of the city.
Focus on Rural and Underdeveloped Areas
The chief minister emphasized that rural areas and agrarian pockets of Delhi require focused development. “Without developing rural regions, unauthorized colonies, and slum clusters, Delhi cannot become a truly developed city,” she said.
Matiala, one of the largest and most rural constituencies in Delhi, will receive maximum attention under the current government’s development plan. Projects sanctioned in the area aim to revitalize infrastructure, roads, and public services, improving the overall quality of life for residents.

Reviving Rural Development Board
CM Gupta criticized the previous Delhi government for neglecting rural development. “The earlier government had effectively paralysed the rural development board. Our government has revived it and sanctioned projects worth Rs 1,700 crore to uplift rural areas,” she said.
The development projects include improvements in education, healthcare, transportation, and local infrastructure, targeting long-standing issues faced by the constituency.
Leaders’ Contributions Acknowledged
The chief minister appreciated the efforts of West Delhi MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat and Matiala MLA Sandeep Sehrawat in driving development works in the region. “The BJP government has addressed Delhi’s long-standing problems in its first year in power, ensuring efficient governance and faster project execution,” CM Gupta said.
Green Transport to Transform Delhi
The introduction of 500 new electric buses is a part of Delhi’s larger vision to promote sustainable transportation and reduce carbon emissions. With an increasing e-bus fleet, the government aims to provide commuters with cleaner, greener, and more efficient public transport options.
