New delhi: In a significant move to revamp the Trans-Yamuna region, also known as Jamna Par, the Delhi government on Thursday approved projects worth Rs 728 crore. The development initiatives aim to improve roads, drainage systems, prevent waterlogging, enhance safe mobility, and beautify the area.
The decisions were taken during a Trans-Yamuna Development Board meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. She emphasized that there would be no shortage of budgetary support for the region and instructed board members to prioritize projects based on urgency and need.
Focus on Improving Basic Infrastructure and Livability
Addressing the board, CM Gupta said, “Our government’s main objective is to develop the Trans-Yamuna region to such an extent that people choose to come and live here by choice.”
The approved projects specifically target:
- Road repairs and upgrades for heavy commuter traffic
- Improved drainage systems and prevention of waterlogging
- Safe and efficient mobility measures
- Beautification initiatives to enhance the urban environment
CM Gupta also instructed officials to resolve issues related to damaged roads and waterlogging quickly, noting that the region’s daily commuters require immediate attention to prevent inconvenience and accidents.

Accountability for Past Inactivity and Swift Execution of Projects
The Chief Minister criticized the previous AAP-led government, highlighting that the board was largely inactive during its tenure, causing delays in developmental work. “All works recommended by the board would be executed, and no financial constraints would impede progress,” Gupta added.
Board Chairman and MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely praised the proposals submitted by MLAs, calling them “extremely significant for transforming the basic infrastructure landscape of the Trans-Yamuna area.” He confirmed that the projects would be implemented swiftly, bringing tangible benefits to local residents.
Areas Covered and Public Concerns
The Trans-Yamuna Development Board oversees Northeast Delhi, East Delhi, and Shahdara. During the 2025 Assembly elections, residents had raised concerns regarding:
- Poor road conditions
- Open sewers
- Traffic congestion
- Waterlogging during monsoons
The newly approved development projects aim to directly address these long-standing issues, enhancing the quality of life for residents across the region.
Looking Ahead
With robust funding and a clear focus on execution, the Delhi government plans to transform the Trans-Yamuna region into a well-planned, safe, and attractive area for residents and businesses alike, signaling a major step forward in the city’s urban infrastructure development.
