A young IPS officer, Mr. Shashank Jaiswal, made it to the headlines on account of his valorous effort in saving the life of a road accident victim in South Delhi with some quick thinking and assistance.

While returning from his patrol duty, the 2014 batch IPS officer, noticed a crowd gathered near Mahipalpur bypass around 8.10 pm. Upon investigation, he found a man bleeding heavily and lying motionless beside a fallen motorcycle, surrounded by onlookers who were not offering assistance. Unnerved by the sight, Officer Jaiswal wasted no time and hailed an autorickshaw with help from his driver Jasbir, and transported the injured man to the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre in Vasant Kunj. Officer Jaiswal accompanied the victim in the auto while instructing other team members to clear the way for the emergency trip. Along the way, traffic constable Shailesh joined the effort to ensure the man reached the hospital quickly.

Recollecting the incident, IPS Jaiswal said, “The accident victim, doctors said, had sustained severe injuries to his head, mouth and other parts after falling from his bike. He had lost a significant amount of blood.” Mr. Jaiswal stayed at the hospital for a while to ensure the injured man’s well-being. The police tracked down the victim’s family and informed them of the accident. As of now, Kumar is receiving treatment at the hospital and is reportedly out of danger. An FIR for causing grievous hurt by negligent driving has been registered, and the police have initiated an investigation into the incident. Local police, under Officer Jaiswal’s direction, are prioritising the case to ensure a thorough and swift investigation.

Mr. Jaiswal’s swift actions and commendable dedication to upholding the sanctity of his Khakhi regalia won accolades from Top police officials across the country. Special Commissioner Ajay Chaudhary appreciated Jaiswal’s quick action and concern for public safety, urging everyone to assist accident victims they encounter. Officer Chaudhary said, “A simple act of assistance can potentially save a life and prevent a family from being shattered.

Through his proactive actions, Officer Jaiswal, who is presently posted in the rank of ADCP, has proven the age-old adage — A Police Officer Is Never Truly Off Duty!
