New Delhi: In a significant stride toward bolstering rail safety in India, the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, and IISc-incubated startup L2MRail for the indigenous development of a cutting-edge ‘Broken Rail Detection Technology.’
The MoU was signed by Praveen Kumar, Managing Director, DFCCIL; Prof. Govindan Rangarajan, Director, IISc Bengaluru; and representatives of L2MRail. The collaboration aims to create a robust, real-time monitoring system that can instantly detect rail fractures and faults, helping to prevent potential derailments and maintain the overall health of freight operations.
This indigenous technology will play a vital role in enhancing the safety and reliability of India’s expanding freight rail network. By offering real-time alerts and automated detection, it ensures timely interventions, thereby reducing the risk of accidents and minimizing service disruptions.
DFCCIL, which is at the forefront of transforming India’s freight transportation infrastructure, continues to integrate innovation and research through such collaborations. The project reinforces the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative by promoting home-grown technological solutions tailored to Indian railway conditions.
Experts believe this partnership could set new standards in predictive maintenance and safety management across Indian Railways and beyond.
