In a significant move to promote inclusive education, the DVK Foundation has launched a dedicated scholarship programme for meritorious students from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) at Bhaktivedanta Gurukula and International School in Vrindavan.
The initiative aims to ensure that talented students from financially weaker backgrounds receive access to quality education, academic resources, and long-term institutional support.
Scholarship to Begin from Academic Session 2025–26
The scholarship programme has been formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding between DVK Foundation and BGIS.
Under the arrangement:
- Selected students will be recognised as DV Kapur Scholars
- Scholarship support will begin from academic session 2025–26
- Assistance will continue until completion of schooling
The programme is designed as long-term educational support rather than one-time aid.
Comprehensive Support for Selected Students
The scholarship package includes a wide range of educational support aimed at removing barriers to learning.
Benefits for DV Kapur Scholars
- Study materials
- School uniforms
- Laptops
- Essential academic resources
In addition, selected students in Classes VIII, IX and XI will receive:
- Annual Merit Award up to ₹20,000
This award will be granted based on school recommendations and approval by the foundation.
BGIS will oversee fund disbursal under agreed transparency norms.
Foundation Inspired by Dr. D.V. Kapur’s Legacy
The foundation draws inspiration from its founder, D. V. Kapur, a distinguished technocrat known for his role in India’s power sector and public administration.
Dr. Kapur rose from humble beginnings in Peshawar and went on to become:
- Founder Chairman of NTPC Limited
- Senior administrator in power, heavy industry and chemicals sectors
He has received several recognitions, including the India Power Lifetime Achievement Award.
Through the foundation, his legacy is being extended into educational philanthropy.
Why BGIS Was Chosen
BGIS is one of the country’s most recognised residential schools.
Founded in 1976 by A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the school is known for combining academics with value-based education.
BGIS profile
- ICSE / ISC affiliated residential school
- Ranked No.1 boarding school in Uttar Pradesh
- Listed among India’s leading boarding schools in EducationWorld rankings
Its spiritual and academic environment was cited as a strong reason for partnership.
More Than Financial Aid
The foundation says the scholarship is intended not only to reduce financial burden but also to:
- Build student confidence
- Encourage academic excellence
- Support long-term development
- Create equal opportunity for deserving children
The initiative specifically targets bright students whose economic conditions often restrict access to quality schooling.
A Model for Education Philanthropy
The programme is also being viewed as an important example of structured philanthropy in India’s education sector.
By linking sustained financial support with institutional accountability, the initiative seeks measurable impact rather than symbolic assistance.
DVK Foundation has congratulated all selected DV Kapur Scholars and encouraged them to fully utilise the opportunity.
