Sanctoria: Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) hosted the 54th Coal India Limited (CIL) Welfare Board Meeting at Durgapur, highlighting its ongoing commitment to employee welfare, inclusive growth, and workforce development across India’s coal sector.
High-Level Attendance and Collaborative Discussion
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Vinay Ranjan, Director (HR), Coal India Limited, and attended by Directors (HR) from all major CIL subsidiaries, including MCL, CCL, NCL, BCCL, SECL, ECL, and WCL, along with representatives from CMPDIL and SCCL. Union leaders from BMS, HMS, AITUC, and CITU also participated, reinforcing the collaborative approach to welfare planning within the coal sector.
The forum served as a strategic platform to review ongoing welfare initiatives, assess key projects, and outline strategies to enhance employee and community well-being.

During the meeting, the Board reviewed progress on major welfare programs, such as housing and township development, healthcare infrastructure, educational support, sports promotion, and new initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life in coalfield communities. Emphasis was placed on expanding social security coverage, strengthening healthcare and educational facilities, and fostering vibrant community ecosystems through cultural and sporting engagement.
Sindoor Park Visit Highlights Sustainable Development
Later in the day, CIL Welfare Board members visited Sindoor Park at the Jhanjra Area of ECL. The park, covering 13.02 hectares, is a model of ecological restoration, featuring Japanese gardens, water bodies, walkways, and play zones. The visit underscored ECL’s dedication to responsible mining while giving back to nature and society, demonstrating the harmonious integration of sustainability and development.
“Chai Pe Charcha” Session Empowers Women Employees
The day concluded with a “Chai Pe Charcha” session between female employees of Jhanjra Area, ECL, and CIL Welfare Board members. The session provided an interactive platform to share experiences, discuss empowerment initiatives, and address concerns related to women’s welfare in the workplace. Officials also engaged with employees to assess welfare facilities on the ground, focusing on workplace improvement, inclusivity, and overall employee well-being.
Dr. Vinay Ranjan emphasized the importance of continuous innovation in welfare planning to meet the evolving needs of the workforce. He reiterated that employee welfare remains central to Coal India’s growth philosophy and is key to fostering equality, engagement, and a thriving workplace culture.
