Facebook India has appointed former IAS officer Rajiv Aggarwal as its Director of Public Policy on Monday. He succeeds Ankhi Das, who quitted October last year due to a controversy.
Mr. Aggarwal belongs to the 1993 IAS batch of the UP cadre who served as District Magistrate in 9 districts of Uttar Pradesh during his tenure period as a bureaucrat. Recently, he was associated with Uber where he was the Head of Public Policy for India & South Asia.
He steered India’s first ever national policy on Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) as Joint Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade. He is also India’s lead negotiator on IPRs with other nations. He is also closely associated with the India-US bilateral trade forum besides being associated with the digital transformation of India’s Intellectual Property (IP) offices.
In his role as the Director of Public Policy, Facebook India, Mr. Aggarwal will focus on user safety, data protection& privacy, inclusion & internet governance to build transparency, accountability, empowered and safe community. He will report to Ajit Mohan, Vice President and Managing Director, Facebook India.
As per the report, he has been appointed for the post after a series of senior and leadership recruitment across marketing, partnerships, communication & other key verticals in recent months affirming Facebook’s expanding charter and commitment to India.
