Gorakhpur: The arrest of a fake IAS officer, identified as Gaurav Kumar alias Lalit Kishore, has led to a series of startling revelations, leaving even senior police officials stunned. During interrogation, it emerged that the accused had maintained relationships with four women across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, three of whom are currently pregnant, after allegedly deceiving them by posing as a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer.
Police investigations revealed that none of the women had any knowledge of his true identity. All four believed they were in relationships with a genuine IAS officer, drawn in by his carefully crafted persona, official-style lifestyle, and convincing fake documents.
How the Fake IAS Officer Fooled Everyone
According to police, Lalit Kishore introduced himself as Gaurav, projecting himself as a powerful IAS officer. He moved around in a white Innova fitted with red and blue beacons, often travelling convoy-style, conducting what appeared to be official tours, and showcasing AI-generated fake documents to reinforce his identity.
Investigators said his mannerisms, speech, and lifestyle convinced not only the women but also several businessmen and local contacts that he was a serving IAS officer.
Identical Stories from the Victims
During questioning, police spoke to all four women he was involved with. The three pregnant women gave strikingly similar accounts, stating that they trusted him because of his apparent authority, confidence, and official appearance.
Chats and call records retrieved from Lalit’s mobile phone revealed romantic conversations, promises of marriage, and future planning. Police officials said the women were completely unaware that they were being deceived and had no knowledge of each other.
It was also revealed during the investigation that Lalit had already entered into a love marriage with another woman, a fact that none of the four girlfriends knew.
Crores in Fraud and a Multi-State Network
Beyond his personal deception, Lalit Kishore is accused of running a large-scale fraud network spread across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand.
A businessman has filed a complaint alleging that Lalit took Rs 5 crore and two Innova cars, promising to secure a government tender worth Rs 450 crore. Police also recovered evidence pointing to financial fraud worth several crores of rupees, fake IDs, and forged documents.
SP City Abhinav Tyagi confirmed that the accused had established an elaborate system to maintain his fake IAS identity while extracting money and trust from multiple victims.
How the Case Came to Light
The case unraveled when the Gorakhpur Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a man carrying Rs 99 lakh during the Bihar elections. During questioning, the arrested individual named Gaurav Kumar Singh, claiming he was an IAS officer from Gorakhpur.
This disclosure raised suspicions among police officials. Subsequent surveillance, phone tracking, and document verification exposed the fake identity. As evidence mounted, the Gorakhpur police intensified monitoring and eventually tracked down and arrested Lalit Kishore.
Police Continue Probe, More Victims Possible
Investigators are now examining Lalit’s financial transactions, mobile data, and digital records to identify additional victims and accomplices, if any. Police believe more individuals may have been deceived using similar methods.
Authorities have also initiated steps to provide support to the women affected by the alleged deception.
