Ujjain: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav inaugurated major development works at the Sw. Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Sports Complex (Nanakheda Stadium) in Ujjain. With a total investment of ₹48.71 crore, the upgrades include a new synthetic hockey turf and enhanced sports facilities, aiming to position Ujjain as a sports hub and potentially host matches of the 2030 Commonwealth Games.

Synthetic Hockey Turf and Multi-Sport Facilities

The Chief Minister highlighted the plan to make Ujjain a centre for international-level sports. “With the new international-standard hockey synthetic turf, Ujjain will produce players capable of competing at the global level. Our goal is to host Commonwealth Games matches in 2030 here,” Dr. Yadav said.

The Nanakheda Stadium, spread over 8.71 hectares (21.77 acres), now features:

  • Synthetic hockey turf (₹48.71 crore)
  • Athletic synthetic track (₹7.22 crore)
  • Lawn tennis synthetic courts and grass football ground (₹11.43 crore)
  • Shooting range, badminton hall, Mallakhamb area, and gymnasium with equipment worth approximately ₹1.50 crore

These upgrades aim to create world-class training infrastructure for local and national athletes.

Ujjain Producing National and International-Level Athletes

Chief Minister Yadav emphasized Madhya Pradesh’s growing prominence in sports. “Earlier, our athletes mainly participated in Asian Games and Olympics without medal wins. Now, thanks to 11 sports academies across 18 sports, our players are winning medals at both Asian and Olympic levels. Ujjain will now contribute significantly to national and international sporting achievements.”

Further developments include the upcoming Hasampura Stadium, supported by new four-lane connectivity, and the maintenance of state-of-the-art swimming pools at Nazrali Compound, handed over to the Sports Department for management.

Government Recognition and Employee Welfare

In related developments, the Madhya Pradesh State Employee Association, led by State Minister Manohar Giri, welcomed Chief Minister Yadav in recognition of the government granting 58% Dearness Allowance to state employees, aligning with central government benefits. Employees expressed gratitude for the prompt action on their demands.

About Nanakheda Stadium and Ujjain Sports Infrastructure

Nanakheda Stadium is rapidly emerging as a multi-sport hub in Madhya Pradesh, equipped with modern facilities for hockey, athletics, tennis, football, badminton, Mallakhamb, shooting, and swimming. These upgrades reflect the state government’s commitment to promoting sports, nurturing talent, and positioning Ujjain as a potential venue for international events like the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
