New Delhi: In a move reflecting its commitment to inclusive growth and sustainability, NMDC Ltd, India’s largest iron ore producer under the Ministry of Steel, has appointed Mr Achal Kumar Sinha as a Non-Official Independent Director for a tenure of three years, starting from July 3, 2025, until July 2, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

This appointment underscores the company’s strategic intention to bring experienced voices from diverse sectors, especially agriculture and rural development, into its leadership framework.

A Veteran in Agriculture and Social Welfare

With over 35 years of experience, Mr Sinha is widely respected for his work in the fields of agriculture, social service, and rural upliftment. A graduate in Botany from Patliputra University (Patna), his academic foundation has helped him understand and respond effectively to the complex challenges faced by the Indian farming community.

Mr Sinha has consistently advocated for sustainable and eco-friendly farming practices, focusing on promoting organic agriculture, low-cost techniques, and community-driven solutions. His grassroots work has helped numerous farmers across Bihar adopt innovative agricultural models and modern cultivation methods.

Championing Rural Development and Empowerment

Mr Sinha’s contributions extend beyond the agricultural sector. He has been a key force in rural awareness campaigns, farmer training programs, and educational outreach for marginalized communities. His leadership has also facilitated collaborations between local governments, NGOs, and farming communities, reinforcing trust and fostering long-term developmental impact.

His holistic approach – combining technical knowledge, on-ground experience, and a commitment to social progress – has earned him recognition as a transformative figure in rural development.

A Strategic Asset to NMDC’s Vision

With NMDC diversifying and aligning with sustainable practices in mining and community development, the inclusion of Mr Sinha brings a valuable rural and agricultural perspective to the company’s boardroom discussions. His insights are expected to guide NMDC in achieving its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) objectives more effectively.
