Kolar Gold Fields: In a bold move to define the future of sustainable mobility, BEML Limited, a key defence PSU, hosted the National Engine Conference at its KGF complex, drawing top experts from across India and abroad. Themed “The Future of Clean Non-Road Mobile Machinery,” the event served as a platform for showcasing innovations that will power India’s next industrial leap through clean, intelligent, and high-performance engines.
Engineering a Greener Tomorrow
BEML CMD Mr. Shantanu Roy inaugurated the conference in the presence of directors, senior engineers, and young technologists. He underscored the company’s mission: “Our objective is not only to manufacture cutting-edge machines, but to engineer a greener, cleaner planet for generations to come.”
This message resonated throughout sessions that focused on three transformational pillars: decarbonization, electrification, and digitalization.
Global & National Collaboration
The conference featured a dynamic panel of domain leaders, including:
- Dr. Shailendra Gade (Advisor, BEML & former DRDO scientist)
- Dr. Sameer Tikar (ARAI)
- Mr. Tejas Kinjawadekar (Cummins)
- Mr. Nagesh (Bosch)
- Dr. Kathikeyan (Ashok Leyland)
- Mr. Gerhard Schagerl (AVL)
- Mr. Daniel Greszik (MTU)
- Mr. Manjunath K (Paras Defence)
Discussions ranged from dual-fuel hydrogen-diesel systems, electric and hybrid powertrains, AI in engine simulation, to emission control and digital twins.
KGF Division: A New R&D Hub
Long known for manufacturing mining and construction equipment, BEML’s KGF Engine Division is being repositioned as a national center for advanced clean engine R&D, aligning with India’s AatmaNirbhar Bharat initiative.
Already, BEML has achieved a major milestone by successfully developing an indigenous 1,500 HP engine for India’s main battle tanks—an achievement that underscores its capacity to build high-performance powertrains across both defence and industrial platforms.
Sustainability in Action
Beyond the conference, BEML continues to invest in:
- Solar and wind energy projects
- 500 KLD Zero Liquid Discharge STP
- Afforestation and plastic-free campuses
- Four Centers of Excellence in R&D and component technology
The company also announced plans for a national series of innovation summits to fuel research, product development, and indigenization across its Bengaluru, Mysuru, KGF, and Palakkad campuses.
