New Delhi: In a major development in India’s public sector leadership landscape, the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Balasugumar Damniel, currently serving as Chief General Manager (Works) at Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), for the post of Director (Operations) at Cement Corporation of India Limited (CCI) — a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Heavy Industries.
The selection was made during the PESB’s interview meeting held on August 8, where nine candidates were interviewed for the key operational role at CCI.
A Seasoned PSU Professional Emerges on Top
Balasugumar Damniel was chosen from a competitive pool of nine contenders, comprising:
- Three candidates from Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL)
- Two from Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL)
One each from:
- Cement Corporation of India (CCI)
- Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL)
- Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL)
- Sagarmala Finance Corporation Limited
His strong operational expertise and proven leadership within SAIL’s industrial ecosystem gave him an edge in the highly scrutinized selection process.
Role and Responsibilities at CCI
Once officially appointed, Balasugumar Damniel will join the Board of Directors of Cement Corporation of India and report directly to the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD).
As Director (Operations), he will be tasked with:
- Overseeing planning and production
- Leading quality assurance across CCI units
- Driving modernization and project management
- Spearheading strategic business expansion
Supporting indigenization efforts in line with the national Make-in-India vision
His leadership will be pivotal in strengthening CCI’s position in the cement manufacturing sector amid evolving infrastructure demands and increasing competition from private players.
