Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday confirmed the arrest of Nilesh Chavan, the key accused in the Vaishnavi Hagawane case. Chavan, who had been absconding for several days, was apprehended by Pimpri-Chinchwad police while allegedly attempting to cross into Nepal.
Speaking to the media in Pune, Fadnavis praised the police for their prompt action. “He was intercepted at the Nepal border while trying to flee. The Pimpri-Chinchwad police did an excellent job,” he said.
The Chief Minister also responded to allegations against Inspector General Jalinder Supekar. “I have received complaints regarding interference in the investigation. Directions have been given to examine these claims thoroughly. Anyone found trying to influence the probe will face strict consequences,” he asserted.
The arrest and the investigation into administrative conduct come at a time when public anger and media attention surrounding the case continue to mount. Citizens across Maharashtra have been demanding accountability and a fair probe in the matter.
