The Maharatna PSU Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) recently recorded a whopping 77.5% surge in its net profit year-on-year at Rs 3,183.35 crore in Q1 of FY2024-25. The state-owned Gas behemoth’s standalone net profit for Q1 FY25 is Rs 2,723.98 crore, which is 93% higher in comparison to Rs 1,412 crore recorded in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal. Owing to healthy profits, the PSU’s earnings per share went up from 2.73% in the June quarter a year ago to 4.84% in the June quarter of FY25.
GAIL earned a profit of Rs 1,446.87 crore on natural gas transmission in Q1 FY25, which was 41% higher than Rs 1,028.33 crore registered in the year-ago period. Profits on LPG for the quarter under review are Rs 80.75 crore. The natural gas marketing business was the most profitable as it yielded Rs 2,036.13 crore in profits to GAIL. The petrochemicals business, on the other hand, made a loss of Rs 49.31 crore. It is interesting to note that GAIL’s petrochemicals segment made a loss of Rs 301.75 crore in the June quarter of the previous fiscal and a profit of Rs 533.41 crore in Q4 of FY2023-24. The city gas distribution business of GAIL made profits of Rs 188.45 crore.
