GAIL India Signs Long-Term Charter for 174,000 cbm LNG Carrier “Energy Fidelity” with Alpha Gas

New Delhi: GAIL (India) Limited, a Maharatna PSU, has signed a long-term charter party agreement with Greek shipping major Alpha Gas for the 174,000 cubic meter LNG carrier “Energy Fidelity.” The agreement, executed through Pantheon Maritime Services Private Limited, a Singapore-based affiliate of Alpha Gas, marks a significant step in bolstering India’s LNG supply chain under the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.

Charter Agreement Signed in Athens

The agreement was signed by S Bairagi, Executive Director (Marketing – Shipping & International LNG) of GAIL (India), and Anna Angelicoussis, Owner of Alpha Gas, at the Alpha Gas headquarters in Athens. The charter secures long-term LNG transportation capacity for GAIL, ensuring reliability in energy supply for India’s growing gas demand.

Vessel Specifications and Efficiency Features

The LNG carrier “Energy Fidelity” has a cargo capacity of 174,000 cubic meters and features advanced technologies for operational efficiency:

  • Two-stroke propulsion system for optimized fuel consumption
  • Air lubrication technology to reduce hull friction
  • Shaft generators to enhance power efficiency and lower emissions

These features collectively improve fuel efficiency while significantly reducing the vessel’s carbon footprint, supporting GAIL’s sustainability goals.

Strengthening India’s Maritime and Energy Infrastructure

This charter is a key milestone for GAIL under the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, aiming to strengthen India’s maritime infrastructure and LNG supply chain. By ensuring steady LNG imports and improving logistical capabilities, GAIL is positioned to support India’s growing energy needs and transition toward cleaner fuel.
