New Delhi: GAIL (India) Limited, the state-run natural gas utility, has announced a revised timeline for its ambitious Mumbai–Nagpur–Jharsuguda Pipeline (MNPL) Project, extending the overall completion target to December 31, 2025. The decision was taken during a meeting of the company’s Board of Directors held today.
The MNPL project spans 1,702 km and is critical to expanding India’s natural gas infrastructure across Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Madhya Pradesh.
Breakdown of Pipeline Sections
The pipeline network is divided into three parts:
- Part A: Mumbai to Nagpur – 693 km
- Part B: Nagpur to Jharsuguda – 692 km
- Part C: Nagpur to Jabalpur – 317 km

Current Progress Across Regions
Mumbai–Nagpur Segment (Part A):
- Fully mechanically completed
- PESO inspection done; awaiting final approval to begin gas operations
Nagpur–Jharsuguda Segment (Part B):
- Odisha & Chhattisgarh stretch (489 km): Complete and ready for gas-in post final permissions
- Maharashtra stretch (203 km): About 9 km of work is still pending, expected to be finished by December 2025
Nagpur–Jabalpur Segment (Part C):
- Madhya Pradesh section (255 km): Mechanically completed
- Maharashtra section (62 km): Only 1.8 km pending; likely to be completed by October 2025
Revised Completion Timeline
GAIL will implement a phased commissioning approach, bringing completed sections online as soon as permissions are secured. Full project commissioning is now targeted for end of December 2025, slightly delayed from the earlier goal of September 30, 2025.
