The Uttar Pradesh government has taken strict action after complaints surfaced regarding the lack of basic amenities for women constables undergoing training at the 26th Battalion PAC (Provincial Armed Constabulary) in Gorakhpur. The move follows allegations by several women constables about inadequate facilities at the training center.
Based on a report submitted by DGP Mr. Rajiv Krishna (1991-batch IPS officer), the government has suspended Mr. Anand Kumar (IPS), Commandant of the 26th Battalion PAC, citing lax supervision and dereliction of duty. DGP Krishna had formally recommended action against him for failing to ensure the well-being of the trainees.
Additionally, Platoon Commander and RTC (Recruit Training Center) in-charge Mr. Sanjay Rai has also been suspended for neglecting to resolve the grievances of the women trainees in a timely manner.
Major Constable Recruitment Underway
This action comes in the backdrop of a large-scale recruitment drive for 60,244 posts of constable civil police in Uttar Pradesh. Of these, 3,568 selected candidates did not report to their assigned training centers and thus were not inducted for basic training.
Currently, 56,676 constables are undergoing nine months of basic training across various centers. These include 45,055 male and 11,621 female recruits, in addition to 445 deceased dependent category candidates (284 male and 161 female).
Training Across 112 Centers
In total, 57,121 newly appointed constables are participating in the training program at 10 dedicated training institutes and 102 district and PAC regional centers across the state. DGP Rajiv Krishna had earlier issued specific instructions to all training centers to ensure proper facilities, particularly for women trainees.
This swift administrative response highlights the government’s emphasis on discipline and accountability in the police training process and reinforces its commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for women in the force.
