The Uttar Pradesh government has sanctioned Rs. 45 crore for projects aimed at the development, beautification, and provision of basic amenities at ancient temples in rural areas of Gorakhpur. Tourism Minister Mr. Jaiveer Singh highlighted that the state continues to lead in religious tourism compared to other states, attracting a growing number of devotees and cultural tourists.
Rich Heritage of Gorakhpur
Gorakhpur is home to several prominent religious sites, including Gorakhnath Temple, Shri Digambar Jain Temple, Jatashankar Gurudwara, Ramkrishna Dev Temple, Ancient Kalika Sthan, Chitragupta Temple, Sant Kabir Ashram, and Shri Ram Janaki Temple. The district also hosts a series of Lord Shiva and Mata temples, which draw devotees from across India.
Enhancing Tourism Infrastructure
The sanctioned funds will be used to improve infrastructure, enhance visitor amenities, and beautify the surroundings of these ancient religious sites. These initiatives aim not only to strengthen the spiritual experience of pilgrims but also to increase tourist footfall, contributing to local economic development.
Record Tourist Arrivals
Tourism Minister Mr. Jaiveer Singh noted that in the first three months of 2025, from January to March, Gorakhpur recorded 15,46,765 tourists. The government’s development projects are expected to further accelerate this growth, positioning Gorakhpur as a leading destination for religious and cultural tourism in Uttar Pradesh.
