The Government of India has issued a stern advisory to the public regarding the circulation of fake news and doctored videos on social media platforms. The advisory highlights that several social media accounts, predominantly from Pakistan, are attempting to create panic and confusion in India by spreading misleading and false content, including old videos that are being falsely portrayed as recent incidents.
The government has pointed out that this misinformation campaign appears to be part of a coordinated effort to foster distrust and panic among the Indian population. In particular, the false claims circulating on social media include fabricated reports about Indian fighter jets being shot down, allegedly following India’s Operation Sindoor – a calculated military action against terrorist camps in Pakistan.
The advisory urges citizens to remain cautious and not to believe or share any malicious or misleading posts. The government has emphasized the importance of verifying the authenticity of information before reacting.
In response to the growing concern, the Government has provided two channels for the public to report any misinformation. Citizens are encouraged to send any suspected fake news to the government via the number 8799711259 or email it to [email protected].
As social media continues to play a pivotal role in shaping public opinion, the government has reiterated the need for responsibility and vigilance in the consumption and sharing of information, especially during sensitive times.
