Redeveloped Chandni chowk market got inaugurated by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday. Under the Chandni Chowk Redevelopment Project, an area of 1.3 km between the Red Fort and the Fatehpuri Masjid crossings has been redeveloped and beautified. The inauguration ceremony was scheduled to be held on 17th of April this year but got delayed due to the situation arisen by covid19.
CM Kejriwal addressed the gathering by saying “today Delhites are coming to see how beautiful Chandni Chowk has become.” He also said that “after redevelopment, this place has become more beautiful and an attraction for tourism. As people come here and spend their time, sometimes, till 12 AM, street food joints will be allowed to open for 3 to 4 more hours until midnight so that people coming here can enjoy having tasty street food. After the closure of the market, lots of street food will be available here.”
The main attraction of this project is its pedestrian-friendly corridor that is made with red granite stones, street furniture, and plants. Now there are underground electric wires, traffic fixed and CCTV installed. The corridor has become a “no traffic zone” from 9 AM to 9 PM for motorized vehicles.
