Gorakshapeethadheeshwar and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath, on Thursday, emphasized the foundational value of Sanatan Dharma—gratitude toward those who contribute to our lives and society. Speaking at the Gorakhnath temple during the concluding ceremony of a week-long observance marking the 56th death anniversary of Yugpurush Brahmaleen Mahant Digvijaynath Ji Maharaj and the 11th death anniversary of Rashtrasant Brahmaleen Mahant Avedyanath Ji Maharaj, the Chief Minister paid heartfelt tributes and reflected on their remarkable contributions.
Sanatan Dharma: A Legacy of Gratitude and Sacrifice
Quoting a passage from the Ramayana—“Krite cha kartavyam eshah dharma sanatanah”—Mr. Yogi Adityanath underlined that the ethos of expressing gratitude is rooted in India’s Sanatan tradition. He noted that the Krishna Paksha of Ashwin, dedicated to ancestor remembrance, is deeply aligned with this value, and the commemoration of the Mahants is a continuation of this sacred practice.
Remembering Visionary Leaders of Gorakshapeeth
Mr. Yogi Adityanath recalled his revered mentors—Dadaguru Brahmaleen Mahant Digvijaynath and Gurudev Brahmaleen Mahant Avedyanath—who he said, devoted their lives to upholding Sanatan Dharma and strengthening the nation across social and public spheres.
He credited Mahant Digvijaynath with instilling the principles of Dharma, education, nationalism, and service—values that were further advanced by Mahant Avedyanath with unwavering dedication. “Gorakshapeeth continues to walk the path they set,” the Chief Minister said, affirming the lineage’s unbroken commitment to these ideals.
Education as a Pillar of National Strength
Tracing the roots of educational empowerment in Gorakhpur, the Chief Minister shared that Mahant Digvijaynath founded the Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad in 1932, during colonial rule, as a tribute to Maharana Pratap and to promote quality education. His efforts laid the foundation for a network of institutions including the Maharana Pratap College and Maharana Pratap Girls’ School.
These institutions were donated during the establishment of Gorakhpur’s first university—not for recognition, but for the greater good. The educational mission expanded to include women’s education, technical education, and AYUSH systems under Mahant Avedyanath’s guidance.
Integral Role in Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Movement
Mr. Yogi Adityanath highlighted the instrumental roles of both Mahants in the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi movement. Mahant Digvijaynath initiated a yajna for the temple’s construction, and Mahant Avedyanath carried forward this vision with tireless commitment from 1983 until his passing.
Their dedication, the Chief Minister noted, was a testament to spiritual conviction and national pride, playing a transformative role in realizing the dream of Shri Ram Temple at Ayodhya.
Advocates for Social Harmony and Equality
The Chief Minister also acknowledged Mahant Avedyanath’s proactive stand against untouchability and his enduring efforts to promote social cohesion. His inclusive vision of Sanatan Dharma was firmly rooted in unity and dignity for all.
Mr. Yogi Adityanath concluded by asserting that the values, sacrifices, and achievements of the two revered Mahants remain a guiding light for the Gorakshapeeth and the entire nation.
