Gujarat to Boost Aviation Infrastructure with Dahod and Dwarka Airports, Driving Economic Growth by 2025

Two greenfield airports set to enhance connectivity, tourism, and industrial expansion across the state
Indian Masterminds Stories

Gujarat: Gujarat is making a decisive move to expand its aviation infrastructure with the development of two new greenfield airports in Dahod and Dwarka. These projects are central to the state’s broader strategy to enhance connectivity, stimulate tourism, and attract industrial investment by 2025.

Dahod Airport: Gateway to Eastern Gujarat’s Industrial Growth

Located in eastern Gujarat, the Dahod airport is designed to cater to both passenger and industrial demand. With land acquisition underway, the project aims to reduce dependence on overburdened airports in Ahmedabad and Indore. It will facilitate faster access to markets and improve logistics for regional industries.

Dwarka Airport: Pilgrimage and Tourism Take Flight

Dwarka, a major religious destination, will soon benefit from a dedicated airport located 12 km from the city center. Tourists currently face long travel hours by train—often up to 17 hours from Mumbai or Ahmedabad. The new airport will drastically cut travel time, promote tourism, and even support defense operations due to its strategic coastal location.

Statewide Aviation Expansion Underway

The Dahod and Dwarka projects are part of Gujarat’s ambitious plan to establish itself as a key aviation hub in western India. Alongside these, the Dholera International Airport is expected to be completed by December 2025, while existing airports like Ahmedabad and Rajkot are being modernized to meet rising demand.

In total, eleven greenfield airport locations have been identified for feasibility studies, including Morbi, Dhordo, and Rajpipla—signaling long-term aviation expansion.

Passenger Surge Validates Expansion Plans

In 2024–2025, Gujarat saw a 39% increase in passenger traffic, highlighting the urgent need for new infrastructure. The government’s aviation roadmap is aligned with national goals to improve logistics, support regional development, and enhance economic competitiveness.

Multi-Sectoral Impact: Tourism, Trade, and Investment

The expansion isn’t just about passenger convenience. The new airports will streamline supply chains, attract global investors, and elevate Gujarat’s profile in sectors such as logistics, hospitality, defense, and industrial manufacturing. Special focus areas include tourism, agro-industries, and regional air connectivity.

Gujarat’s Vision: Becoming a Western Indian Aviation Powerhouse

With large-scale capital investment, proactive policies, and strategic planning, Gujarat is on course to become a national leader in aviation infrastructure. The integration of new airports with regional and international networks will ensure that Gujarat plays a key role in India’s transport and logistics economy in the years ahead.
