  • Fragile geological zones
  • Areas affected by heavy rain and extreme weather

Officials said the new rehabilitation and protection measures will:

The Jammu–Katra section is strategically important because it connects pilgrims to the famous Vaishno Devi shrine and supports tourism and regional connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir.

The route is part of the larger Jammu–Baramulla railway network, one of India’s most ambitious railway projects in Himalayan terrain.

Important highlights of the route include:

  • Connectivity to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine
  • Integration with Kashmir rail network
  • Important tourism and pilgrimage movement
  • Advanced tunnel and bridge engineering projects

The region includes major infrastructure achievements such as the Chenab Rail Bridge and several complex mountain tunnels.

  • Tunnel modernisation
  • Disaster-resistant engineering
  • Passenger reliability

Experts believe the newly approved works will help the Jammu–Katra section remain operational and safer during extreme weather and geological challenges.
