As the Model Code of Conduct takes effect in poll-bound Karnataka, retired IPS officer K T Balakrishna advises the police force in the state to ensure that no law and order incidents should take place.

Now that the election calendar has been published, the poll code has taken effect, necessitating more work on the part of the police, the 2005 batch officer said.

“The police should act quickly and make sure there are no incidents during the polls,” said Mr. Balakrishna at the Police Flag Day, which was co-hosted by the Mysuru City Police, Mounted Police, Karnataka Police Academy, Police Training School, State Intelligence Department, Lokayukta, CESC, Internal Security Department, and KSRP at City Armed Reserve Grounds.

Mr. Balakrishna, who retired this year poke on the occasion after receiving the guard of honour at the parade grounds in the Mandya district.

He remembered how police officers actively participated in soliciting donations from the public and made contributions themselves on Police Flag Day. But now, he rued, such activities have lost their charm.

The march past on the day was held under the leadership of parade commandant KN Suresh and assistant commandant SD Sasanoor. Mr. Balakrishna shared the stage with the other chief guest and retired police officer, HS Ramesh, who released the Police Flag Day sticker.
