New Delhi: India is set to increase its target for ethanol blending in petrol to over 20 percent, according to Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep S. Puri (a 1974 batch Indian Foreign Service officer).
Speaking at the Advantage Assam 2.0 business summit on Wednesday, Puri revealed that a committee has been formed under NITI Aayog to explore and drive the increased blending of ethanol with petrol.
Currently, India has achieved a 19.6 percent ethanol blending, and Puri emphasized that the country is now looking to exceed the 20 percent mark. “A NITI Aayog group has been set up, and they are looking into it,” he said, highlighting the government’s commitment to biofuel initiatives.
Puri further noted that despite India’s developmental challenges, fossil fuel production companies in the country will achieve net-zero emissions by 2045, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to sustainable energy practices.
