New Delhi: S Usha has assumed charge as Director (Market Operation) of Grid-India Ltd, a Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Power, effective January 28, 2026. She is the first woman to hold this pivotal position in the company’s history.
Trailblazing Appointment in India’s Power Sector
Prior to this appointment, Ms. Usha served as Executive Director at the National Load Despatch Centre (NLDC) of Grid-India. Her leadership at NLDC was marked by significant contributions to power market reforms and the secure operation of the national electricity grid.
A 1989-batch B.Tech (Electrical Engineering) graduate from Calicut University, Ms. Usha brings over 35 years of extensive experience across the Indian power sector, having worked with the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), POWERGRID, and Grid-India. Her appointment is widely seen as a milestone for gender diversity in leadership positions within India’s energy sector.

Key Responsibilities as Director (Market Operation)
In her new role, Ms. Usha will oversee market operations, regulatory implementation, and system efficiency functions at Grid-India. Her responsibilities include:
