Kolkata: In a landmark achievement for indigenous defence manufacturing, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd. (GRSE) delivered three frontline naval platforms—Dunagiri, Sanshodhak, and Agray—to the Indian Navy today. The deliveries underscore GRSE’s enhanced execution capabilities, production efficiency, and commitment to operational excellence.
The handover was formally accepted by Rear Admiral Gautam Marwah, VSM, CSO (Tech), HQENC, for Dunagiri and Agray, and by Cmde Shishir Dixit, CSO (Tech), HQENC, for Sanshodhak. With these deliveries, GRSE has constructed 118 warships, including 80 ships delivered to the Indian Navy, cementing its role as a cornerstone of India’s naval strength.
Dunagiri: Advanced Guided-Missile Frigate with Cutting-Edge Capabilities
The Dunagiri, the second Advanced Guided-Missile Frigate under Project 17A, represents a major leap in indigenous warship design. Launched in July 2022 by Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh, the 149-metre, 6,670-tonne frigate features:
- BrahMos anti-ship and land-attack cruise missiles
- Advanced AESA radar and integrated combat management system
- Superior speed, endurance, and multi-domain operational flexibility
Equipped to handle air, surface, and sub-surface threats, Dunagiri strengthens the Navy’s strike and defensive capabilities significantly.

Sanshodhak: Enhancing Hydrographic Survey and Humanitarian Missions
Sanshodhak, the fourth and last Survey Vessel (Large) built by GRSE, enhances India’s hydrographic and survey capabilities. Launched in June 2023, the 110-metre vessel is designed for:
- Full-scale coastal and deep-water hydrographic surveys
- Oceanographic and geographic data collection for defence applications
- Support for helicopter operations, HADR missions, and low-intensity combat
Powered by marine diesel engines with bow and stern thrusters, Sanshodhak ensures precise survey operations and multipurpose naval utility.
Agray: Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft
The Agray, one of eight ASW-SWCs, was launched in March 2024 and is engineered for coastal and littoral operations. Key features include:
- Full-scale sub-surface surveillance and anti-submarine warfare missions
- Lightweight torpedoes, ASW rockets, and a 30 mm naval gun
- Approximately 88% indigenous content, powered by marine diesel engines coupled with waterjets
Agray’s agility, precision, and shallow draught of 2.7 metres make it ideal for strategic operations in coastal waters.
