Gandhinagar: In a significant move to strengthen India’s technological self-reliance, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE) has proposed a strategic research and development (R&D) collaboration with MSMEs and startups in Gujarat. The initiative aims to co-develop advanced technologies and innovative products aligned with the national vision of self-reliance.

The announcement follows a high-level meeting held on March 16, 2026, between GRSE Chairman and Managing Director and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Rajnikant Patel in Gandhinagar.

Focus on R&D Collaboration with MSMEs and Startups

GRSE’s proposed initiative emphasizes collaboration with local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and emerging startups. The goal is to create a strong innovation ecosystem that leverages regional entrepreneurial talent.

  • Strengthening indigenous capabilities in shipbuilding and defense

During the visit, the GRSE delegation also met Jitu Vaghani, Minister for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Fisheries, and Cooperation.
