Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSE), a premier shipbuilding company in India, has taken significant strides towards international collaboration by signing multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) during an official delegation visit to Sweden and Denmark. These agreements mark a crucial advancement in GRSE’s capabilities and outreach in the marine engineering and shipbuilding sectors.
Collaboration with Berg Propulsion, Sweden
On this visit, GRSE signed an MoU with M/s Berg Propulsion, a globally renowned company specializing in the development, manufacturing, and supply of advanced marine propulsion systems. This partnership aims to leverage the combined technical expertise and innovation of both entities to enhance GRSE’s portfolio of propulsion equipment and systems. The focus will primarily be on ongoing and upcoming government projects where cutting-edge propulsion technology is crucial.
Partnership with SunStone, Denmark for Expedition Cruise Vessels
On June 6, 2025, GRSE also formalized its collaboration with M/s SunStone, Denmark, a leading provider of expedition cruise vessels. This MoU opens avenues for joint efforts in designing and constructing high-end expedition cruise vessels, an emerging and rapidly growing sector in marine tourism. The cooperation will focus on innovation and sustainability, aligning with global trends in eco-friendly cruise solutions.
Agreement with German Firm for Multi-Purpose Vessels
Earlier on June 4, 2025, GRSE signed a Memorandum of Intent (MoI) with Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler und Reederei GmbH & Co. The new vessels will incorporate hybrid propulsion systems and comply with the latest cybersecurity standards to ensure operational efficiency and security in maritime operations. GRSE aims to finalize the firm contract for these vessels by August 31, 2025.
Boost to Indigenous Shipbuilding and Global Collaboration
These international agreements underscore GRSE’s commitment to advancing indigenous shipbuilding capabilities while embracing global partnerships. The collaborations will not only enhance GRSE’s technological base but also contribute to India’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat in the defense and marine manufacturing sectors.
