Chhattisgarh Women Empowerment: Subhadra Becomes ‘Lakhpati Didi’ Through Cucumber Farming Under Bihan Scheme

From Bilaspur’s Karka village, Subhadra earns ₹7,000 daily income via self-help group, bank loan and modern farming with government support under rural livelihood mission

Bilaspur: In a powerful story of women empowerment, Subhadra from Karka village in Bilaspur has transformed her life through hard work, self-help group support, and government livelihood schemes under the Bihan initiative.

Once struggling with poverty, she is now proudly known as a “Lakhpati Didi”, proving how collective effort and financial support can change lives.

Joined Self-Help Group and Started Cucumber Farming

Subhadra joined the Maa Saraswati Self-Help Group under the state’s livelihood mission. With guidance and financial assistance, she started cucumber cultivation on 2 acres of land.

The group received:

  • ₹15,000 revolving fund
  • ₹60,000 CIF support
  • ₹3 lakh bank loan

This financial support helped women farmers begin organized agriculture work.

Daily Income of ₹7,000 Through Farming Success

With modern farming techniques and strong teamwork, the group began producing high-quality cucumbers.

Today, Subhadra and her team:

  • Sell around 10 quintals of cucumber every alternate day
  • Earn approximately ₹7,000 per day

This steady income has significantly improved their financial stability.

Life Changes Through Women Empowerment

The increased earnings have helped the women of the group improve their living standards. They are now able to:

  • Manage household expenses better
  • Focus on children’s education
  • Save for future needs

Subhadra says the government scheme changed her life completely and gave her financial independence.

Subhadra credited her success to continuous support from insurance sakhi Habibun Nisha, who guided the group in:

  • Banking procedures
  • Loan management
  • Financial literacy
  • Farming-related decisions

Her support played a crucial role in the group’s success journey.
