Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Tourism Department has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth Rs 1,527.56 crore for tourism infrastructure development in the Saurashtra and Kutch regions, announced Minister of State for Tourism Jayram Gamit in the Legislative Assembly. The agreements were signed during the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference (VGRC)-2025.
The move is part of a broader plan to strengthen tourism facilities, eco-tourism, heritage preservation, and employment opportunities across the state, aligning with Gujarat’s declaration of 2026 as ‘Gujarat Tourism Year’.

Major Tourism Projects in Saurashtra-Kutch
According to the Tourism Minister, the projects under these MoUs include:
- Eco-tourism initiatives to attract environmentally conscious travelers.
- Luxury hotels and resorts to cater to national and international tourists.
- Advanced training institutes for skill development in hospitality and tourism.
- Development of heritage properties and cultural centres to promote local handicrafts and folk arts.
- Establishment of integrated digital platforms offering online booking, guidance services, and package tours for tourists.
Focus on Employment and Local Development
The MoUs are expected to generate significant direct and indirect employment, particularly in the Rann of Kutch region. The projects will provide income opportunities, boost local industries, and encourage preservation of historical and cultural assets.
Minister Gamit emphasized that these strategic agreements with expert institutions and travel aggregators will strengthen infrastructure development and ensure sustainable tourism growth across the region.
Boosting Gujarat’s National and International Tourism Profile
The initiative aims to enhance Gujarat’s brand image at both national and international levels by improving tourism infrastructure, promoting eco-tourism, and highlighting heritage properties. It complements the state’s focus on heritage preservation, local handicrafts, and cultural promotion.
The 2026 ‘Gujarat Tourism Year’ will serve as a platform to showcase these developments and attract a larger tourist inflow, contributing to the comprehensive development of Gujarat’s tourism sector.
