Gandhinagar: In response to rapid urbanisation and the growing demand for quality recreational spaces, the Gujarat government under Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has allocated ₹20 crore in the Gujarat Budget 2026–27 to develop theme-based ‘Namo Gaurav Parks’ across municipal corporations in the state.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Urban Development and Urban Housing Department, aims to enhance urban living standards while promoting environmental sustainability and climate resilience.
Addressing Urban Growth with Community-Centric Spaces
With cities in Gujarat witnessing accelerated expansion and shrinking open spaces, the need for vibrant community hubs has become more urgent. The proposed Namo Gaurav Parks are envisioned as safe, inclusive, and dynamic public spaces that cater to the recreational and cultural needs of urban residents.
Designed for all age groups—including children, youth, and senior citizens—the parks will feature modern amenities that promote fitness, mental well-being, and social interaction. Authorities believe the project will significantly improve quality of life in municipal areas.

Promoting Fitness, Culture and Social Engagement
The theme-based parks will incorporate dedicated zones for sports, fitness, and cultural activities. These include:
- Children’s play areas with modern play equipment
- Open gyms, jogging and walking tracks
- Spaces for badminton and volleyball
- Open-air amphitheatres and performance stages
- Lawns for yoga and meditation
By encouraging physical activity and hosting cultural and community events, the parks are expected to strengthen social bonds and foster a sense of belonging among urban communities.
Boosting Urban Ecology and Climate Resilience
A key focus of the Namo Gaurav Parks initiative is environmental sustainability. The parks will feature extensive tree plantations, theme-based landscaping, butterfly and herbal gardens, and flower beds to enhance biodiversity and green cover.
Water conservation measures such as rainwater harvesting systems, drip irrigation, and eco-friendly water bodies including ponds and fountains will help improve microclimatic conditions. The initiative aims to contribute to climate change mitigation and strengthen urban ecological balance.
Proposed Features of Namo Gaurav Parks
The Gujarat government has outlined several components for the development of these parks:
Children’s Play Zones: Equipped with safe and modern play structures.
Thematic Landscaping and Green Areas: Local tree plantations, themed sculptures, art installations, butterfly gardens, and herbal gardens.
Fitness and Sports Areas: Open gyms, walking tracks, and courts for various sports.
Cultural and Recreational Spaces: Open amphitheatres, event platforms, yoga and meditation lawns.
Eco-Friendly Water Structures: Small ponds, fountains, drip irrigation systems, and rainwater harvesting mechanisms.
Public Amenities with Universal Access: Drinking water facilities, clean public toilets, benches, pavilions, internal roads, and accessibility features for specially-abled individuals.

Strategic Urban Investment for Inclusive Development
The development of theme-based Namo Gaurav Parks reflects the Gujarat government’s strategic urban investment approach, combining recreation, environmental sustainability, and social infrastructure.
The initiative aligns with the broader vision of creating inclusive, people-centric, and climate-resilient cities while enhancing ease of living in municipal areas. With dedicated budget allocation and a clear focus on sustainability, the Namo Gaurav Parks are set to become key urban landmarks promoting healthier, greener, and more connected communities across Gujarat.
