Gandhinagar: The Gujarat Panchayat Department has announced a significant funding boost for the Mukhyamantri Nirmal Gram Yojana, allocating Rs 650 crore to improve sanitation and public health across rural areas, according to a release from the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
Currently, the scheme is operational in 667 villages across 21 talukas in 12 districts, focusing on systematic waste management and cleanliness initiatives.
Door-to-Door Waste Collection and Public Sanitation
Under the programme, Gram Panchayats are tasked with appointing agencies to manage door-to-door waste collection and the cleaning of public spaces. Collected waste is transported to designated dumping sites, while taluka-level authorities coordinate with agencies to ensure accumulated waste is taken to the nearest municipality or municipal corporation processing unit.
The initiative is also extended to urban authorities, including RUDA, GUDA, and VUDA, with the overarching goal of raising cleanliness standards in rural areas and enhancing public health outcomes.
Incentives are provided under the Swachh Bharat Mission to support the repair and maintenance of sanitation assets and vehicles, further promoting sustainable sanitation practices.
